add both equations x to x, y to y and constant to constant.

Thank you po! I'll use it as an example and guide in my homework!

Since if you add both equations, and since if 5x and -5x is added they will become 0, that means wala na ang y. Kay i-add lang ang dalawang equation.

5x   - y =    8
+   -5x + 4y = -17
0 + 3y = -9
3y = -9
3y / 3 = -9/3
y = -3

Kaya, ngayon, puwede na ang y maging -3, kaya subukan nating palitan ang y at ipalit natin ang -3 para x na lang ang maiwan.

-5x + 4y = -17
-5x + 4 (-3) = -17
-5x - 12 = -17
-5x = -17 + 12
-5x = -5
-5x / -5 = -5 / -5
x = 1

Kaya, ang x = 1, at y = -3
