A coordinator joins two coordinates —words, phrases or clauses. The coordinator is placed between the like structures with a comma placed before the coordinator. A coordinator may also begin a sentence¹. A subordinator signals or marks a phrase or clause as subordinate to the main clause. The subordinator itself does not have a meaning. It serves to connect content information.
