Multiply the equation  x^{2}  y^{2} = 5  by -1 then
Add both equation:
  (   x^{2}  2y^{2} = 17 )
+(  -x^{2} +  y^{2} = -5 )
=   3y^{2} =12
 =  y^{2} = 12/ 3
 y^{2} = 4
 \sqrt{ y^{2} }  \sqrt{4}
 y = 2

 Substitute it to any of the equation:
 x^{2}  y^{2} = 5
 x^{2}  2^{2} = 5
 x^{2} - 4 = 5
 x^{2} = 9
 \sqrt{ x^{2}}  \sqrt{9}
 x = 3
