First, to divide a number, there should be a divisor.

So, to divide a whole number, a divisor is required.

Example, the whole number is 10.

Divide 10 (dividend) by any number, then you'll get the answer which is called quotient.

Dividing whole numbers mean dividing the number into equal parts (divisor).  The excess is called remainder.

Example:  If you divide 10 (dividend) by 3 (divisor), the answer (quotient) is 3 equal parts and an excess or remainder or 1.
