Keep the sign of the first number
Flip the sign (If -, make it + and vice versa)
Change the sign of the second number (If negative, make it positive and vice versa)
Apply common sense on adding/subtracting those

Example:
-5 + 7
Keep the first number
-5
Flip the sign
-5 -
Change the sign of the second number
-5 - -7
Apply common sense on subtracting/adding the number
-5 - -7 = +2 or 2

In multiplying, if the signs are alike, the answer is always positive, if the signs are unlike, the answer is always negative.

Example:
5 x 5 = 25
-5 x -5 = 25
-5 x 5 = -25
5 x -5 = -25
