What is Cloud Computing and how it worksCloud computing is a system of networks that provide storage services, servers and applications over the Internet. These services could be provided to organizations as a whole or to individuals. The basic working of cloud computing involves a conglomeration of computers to perform functions that one computer on its own would not be able to do. It is not known where the term ‘cloud computing software’ came from. However, the word cloud essentially means the Internet. All services provided by cloud computing are done over the Internet, hence its name. Cloud computing software provides a way for individuals to back up their data in the event that their hard drives crash or something happens to their computers or devices.Cloud service providers through the use of cloud computing software undertake cloud-computing services. Interested individuals have an array of cloud computing software providers to choose from. Some of the most popular ones include Amazon, IBM, Google, AT&T, GoGrid and Microsoft. Cloud services provided by companies such as Google (Google Drive) are provided free of charge to individuals and businesses. Others such as Amazon are provided at a price. One of Amazon’s many cloud services is called Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud and is offered for free for a trial period after which clients can choose from different pricing options.Cloud computing is undergoing an evolution with major tech companies such as IBM, Microsoft and Google participating in it. Cloud computing has several benefits for both businesses and individuals. It provides flexibility in the event that bandwidth is limited. It also saves clients time by performing tasks such as software updates and maintenance on behalf of the client. This gives the client the chance to perform other tasks. As was mentioned, cloud computing employs the use of a number of computers creating a supercomputer able to perform functions that one computer cannot do. Computers are networked through a group of servers that use typical consumer PCs to perform their functions. This gives cloud-computing software the ability to perform trillions of computing functions per second.Cloud computing services are double-sided. A cloud has two sides or layers. One layer is known as the front layer, which is what the client sees and uses. The other layer is called the back layer, and is what the cloud service provider sees. The back layer consists of the software and servers used to run the cloud service. Virtualization is used in cloud computing to create space. Combining multiple networks to appear as one storage unit does this. The services provided by cloud computing are provided through the following components: IaaS, SaaS, NaaS and PaaS. IaaS also, Infrastructure as a Service allows users to purchase hardware components such as storage and networking services. These can be bought based on consumption to save the user money. SaaS, also Software as a Service includes software provision services for clients. NaaS, Network as a Service is a recent model that provides connectivity services to clients. Last, PaaS also known as Platform as a Service provides applications over the Internet for clients. All of the models above are components of cloud computing software and packages provides by cloud service providers are typically composed of one, two or all of them.If you want to take advantage of any of the mentioned cloud services first need to decide their computing needs. Once this has been determined, the most appropriate cloud computing software should be chosen. Once this has been done then you can subscribe to the service and begin to enjoy these services.
