It's more like one codon codes for a particular amino acids. But each codon is made of 3 nucleotides (hence where the confusion arises)
Some amino acids are coded by more than one codon but each codon is specifically for one amino acid. A codon would be like CUC which codes for Leucine (Leu) amino acid.
