For example, you need to subtract 1/2 and 1/3, first we need to find it's LCD.

LCD = 6

The LCD will become the denominator, for the numerator, divide LCD to the old denominator then multiply the answer to the old numerator.
6 ÷ 2 × 1 = 3
6 ÷ 3 × 1 = 2

Therefore,
1/2 = 3/6
1/3 = 2/6

Then subtract the fractions now and make sure it was reduced to lowest term.
 \frac{3 - 2}{6} = \frac{1}{6}
