Since the means of the proportion are equal, represent the mean in one variable only.

Let x be the mean.

    \frac{9}{x} =  \frac{x}{16}
   (x) (x) = (9) (16)

    x² = 144

     \sqrt{x^{2} } =  \sqrt{144}

    x = 12

ANSWER:  The value of mean is 12.

 \frac{9}{12} = \frac{12}{16}

In lowest term:

 \frac{3}{4} =  \frac{3}{4}
