Equation A:  x + y = 14
      Larger number: x
      Smaller number: y

Equation B:  2y = x - 5

Solve the system by substitution method:
1) x + y = 14
    x = 14 - y

2) Substitute 14 - y to x in Equation B:
    2y = x - 5
    2y =  14 - y - 5
    2y + y = 9
    3y = 9
    3y/3 = 9/3
    y = 3

3) Substitute 3 to y in Equation A:
    x + y = 14
    x + 3 = 14
    x = 14 - 3
    x = 11

ANSWER:  The numbers are 11 and 4.

Check:
Equation A:
    x + y = 14
   11 + 3 = 14
   14 = 14 (True)

Equation B:
   2y = x - 5
   2 (3) = 11 - 5
   6 = 6  (true)
