There are three forms of comparison:
positive (original word. eg: pretty)
comparative( add 'er)
superlative (add 'est')

• Adjectives with one syllable:

positive= clean.
comparative = clean(er)
superlative= clean(est)

• Adjectives with two syllable ending with 'y':

positive=dirty
comparative=dirti(er)
superlative=dirti(est)

•Adjectives with two syllables, ending in -er;
positive= clev(er)
comparative= clever(er)
superlative=clever(est)

•Adjectives with two syllables, ending in -le;
positive = simple
comparative= simpl(er)
superlative=simpl(est)

•Adjectives with two syllables, ending in -ow;
positive= narrow
comparative = narrow(er)
superlative=narrow(est)

Comparison wi th more – most all adjectives with more than one syllable:
positive= difficulty
comparative= more difficult
superlative= (the) most difficult
