When adding numbers that both have a positive sign, the sum will be positive. ( + plus + = +) Eg, 2 + 2 = 4

When adding numbers that both have a negative sign, the sum will be negative. ( - + - = -) Eg. -2 -2 = 4. (Notice that the add sign is removed)

When adding numbers that are negative signs:

If the number with the HIGHER value has the POSITIVE sign, then the sum will be positive. Eg. 4 + (-2) = 2. (You will replace the add sign with the negative sign of 2)

If the number with the LOWER value has the POSITIVE sign, then the sum will be negative. Eg. -25 +3 = -22
