A container that holds compostable materials and is semi-buried in the ground is what a basket compost pit is.
Specifically, the container is a homemade basket made from branches and twigs or a loose-weave basket made of organic materials such as wood. It maximally measures 12 inches (30.48 centimeters) in diameter and in height. It will occupy a 6+ (15.24+-centimeter) deep hole so that no less than half of its height is below ground and no more than half above ground. It will process compostable garden and yard waste such as fallen plant parts and fruit or vegetable peels. Its contents will supply environmentally-friendly, healthy nutrient inputs in the area of the digging and elsewhere in the garden and on the lawn.
