if you push a box and it moves a distance in the direction towards you're pushing it.

- the work is done on the box because the object change displacement in the same direction as the force you applied.


then if you apply a force doesn't make the object move so no work is done.


calculating if the work is done

W = FD

w=work
f = force
d = displacement


another example.

if I push a chair with 10 N force along the 3 meters line. calculate if the work is done.

W= FD

F= 10 newton
D = 3 meters

w = (10 Newton) (3 meters)
= 30 Nm or 30 J (equivalent to joules)
