To get  the value of k so that the equation has two equal roots, the discriminant (b²-4ac)  of the equation should be equal to zero.

b² - 4ac = 0    where k = a

k = ?      b = -24        c = 16

Solution:

(-24)² - 4(k)(16) = 0

576 - 64k = 0

64k = 576

64k/64 = 576/64

k = 9

To check:

9x² - 24x + 16 = 0   ⇒ Perfect Square Trinomial

Factor:
(3x - 4) (3x - 4) = 0

3x - 4 = 0
3x = 4
3x/3 = 4/3
x = 4/3  (root)
