  surface area of an open cylinder  =   the circumference of the               base x the vertical height

     that is  SA   =  2πr x h      /  r  = radius of cylinder , h  = vertical height
   ex:
        a cylinder has a height of  6ft and a radius of 3ft
         SA  =   2π3* 6
                 =  36π sqft
