Present ages:
Wife: x
Man:  7/6(x)

Ages twenty years ago:
Wife: x - 20
Man:  7x/6 - 20

Equation:

7x/6 - 20 = 2(x-20)

7x/6 - 20 = 2x - 40

Multiple each term by LCD=6:

6 [7x/6 - 20 = 2x - 40] 6

7x - 120 = 12x - 240

12x - 7x = 240 - 120

5x = 120

5x/5 = 120/5

x = 24

Substitute:
Present Ages:
Wife: x = 24 years old
Man: 7/6 (24) = 28 years old

ANSWER: The wife is 24 years old while her husband (man) is 28 years old.

Check ages twenty years ago:
Wife: 24 - 20 = 4
Man: 28 - 20 = 8

Twenty years ago, the man's age was twice the woman's age:
8 = 2(4)
8 = 8    (True)
