Convert the mixed fraction into an improper fraction (by multiplying the whole number and denominator, then adding the numerator), then add the now improper fraction and the proper fraction. Don't forget to simplify.

Example:

2 3/5 = 13/5 + 2/5 = 15/5 = 3/1 = 3

If they're dissimilar fractions, just find the least common denominator of both fractions.
