A computer manufacturing company would like to come up with a new laptop computer such that its monitor is 80 square inches smaller than the present

ones.Suppose the length of tho monitor of the larger computer is 5 inches longer than its width and the area of the smaller computer is 70 square inches.What are the dimensions of the monitor of the larger computer?

Let L be the length of the larger computer
W be the width of the larger comp.
X be the smaller length
Y be the smaller width
Area of smaller = Area of larger - 80
L = 5 + W
70 = Area of larger - 80
Area of larger = 150
150 = (5 + W)(W)
0 = W^2 + 5W - 150
0 = (W + 15)(W - 10)
W = 10
L = 15
10 × 15
