Given: length = 5 + w
          area  = 36 square meter

Formula: l*w = 36 
Sol'n:       (5 + w) w = 36
              w^2 + 5w = 36
              w^2 + 5w -36 = 0
               (-w - 9) (-w + 4) = 0
               -w  - 9 = 0                |    -w + 4 = 0         
               -w = 9                      |    -w = -4
               -1(-w) = (9) -1           |     -1(-w) = (-4) -1
                w = -9                     |     w = 4
{since there's no negative measurement, we will choose w = 4}

width =  4
length = 5 +w
          = 5 +4
          = 9

Checking:
    L*W = Area
    9m*4m   = 36m^2

A = w²+5w-36 = 0

a = 1 b= 5 c= -36

w= -b +- √b²-4ac

w= -5 +- √169

w= -5 + 13                      w= -5-13

w= 8  = 4                        w= -18 = -9

* there are no negative measurement so we must use the positive answer which is 4 in replacing the value of w.

l = w+5 = 4+5 = 9m
