Climate change is so often presented in the media as a problem that we, as individuals, have the power to solve. Implied is that if we make the right lifestyle choices the problem will be considerably reduced. Low energy light bulbs, plastic bags, local food, green energy tariffs, recycling and growing your own are all very worthy choices that individuals can make. However when you consider the aspects of our lives that impact climate change you begin to question what power we actually have to make a difference as consumers. The energy we consume, the transport we use, the food we eat, the clothes we buy, the waste we produce, the holidays we take, the homes we live in, the places we work in and so on all impact the environment. We have choices, but the range of choice, and price of it, are so often beyond our control. On so many issues as individuals we have no control. Governments and the large corporations have the control.
