Assume:  a=b
a×b=b²
a×b-a²=b²-a²
a×(b-a) = (b+a)×(b-a)
a=b+a
a=2a (since a=b,..)
therefore, 1=2

but seriously it's false, because (b-a) is equal to zero, and cancelling out (b-a) in "a×(b-a) = (b+a)×(b-a)", or rather, dividing both sides by zeros is incorrect/non-algebraic.
