To evaluate algebraic expressions, of course you should know how to do basic distributions or factoring.
ex. find the value of x in this expression.
x (x² - 24 ) + 120 = x³ - x² -24
To find the value of x, first is to distribute x to the equations (x² - 24)
x³ - 24x + 120 = x³ - x² -24
Then transpose x³ - x² - 24 to the right side to combine like terms.
x² - 24x + 144 = 0      ( Transposing makes the sign to change ) then factor the equations.
( x - 12) ( x - 12 ) = 0
then equate each expression to zero.
x - 12 = 0                x - 12 = 0
x = 12                        x = 12
so the answer is 12.
Review those ways that was used to solve the given algebraic expression.
