Are you sure you've got the given correct in D?
i think it's just right. because if we substitute the value of x which are 2 and 3 we get the value of -1 and 0 which are greater than -2 and less than 1. I hope i'm right :D
in the second thought i have misread it again haha... xD

For you to have the answer in this kind of problems, have it in partition. Solve one inequality at a time.
A.)  5 ≤ 3x - 4 < 8
First partition:
5 ≤ 3x - 4
transpose 4 to the left
5 + 4 ≤ 3x
9 ≤ 3x
divide the inequality with 3
3 ≤ x
Second Partition:
3x - 4 < 8
transpose 4 to the right
3x < 8 + 4
3x < 12
x < 4
Therefore the answer for A is 3 ≤ x < 4

B.) -2 ≤ x + 8 < 0
First Partition:
-2 ≤ x + 8
transpose 8 to the left
-2 - 8 ≤ x
-10 ≤ x
Second Partition:
x + 8 < 0
transpose 8 to the right
x < -8
Therefore the answer for B is -10 ≤ x < -8

C.) 11 ≥ 5x - 6 ≥ -1
First Part:
11 ≥ 5x - 6
Transpose -6 to the left
11 + 6 ≥ 5x
17 ≥ 5x
17/5 ≥ x
Second Part:
5x - 6 ≥ -1
transpose -6 to the right
5x ≥ -1 + 6
5x ≥ 5
x ≥ 1
Therefore the answer for C is 17/5 ≥ x ≥ 1

D.) -2 > x - 3 > 1
First Part:
-2 > x - 3
transpose -3 to the left
-2 + 3 > x
1 > x
Second Part:
x - 3 > 1
transpose -3 to the right
x > 1 + 3
x > 4
Therefore the answer for D is 1 > x > 4

Wow, you are really a great help :) Thank you So much. :D
I have doubts for D.. x can't be greater than 4 but less than 1.. what number could that be? (-_-).. i think you have copied not the right given
it's just too odd..
Well... It's actually my classmate's notes..
The bell already rang and it was dismissal but I wasn't done copying... he promised he'd let me copy his notes but when we got down we both forgot cause we passed a bunch of other subject activity papers.... So I'm glad he remembered and posted it :) hehe... Sorry I'm not sure either...
