Factoring is a method used to simplify algebraic equations.

For example, simplify by factoring:

8x+4x = 0
4(2x+x) = 0           They are both even and both multiples of 4. Thus, factoring 4
would cause 8x to be reduced by half from it's original value
and 4x would be just 4.
